Selected Work

My work has crossed luxury fashion, brand building, organizational strategy, entrepreneurship, advocacy and public policy. The common thread is rarely industry. It is the moment when an idea, organization or cause needs sharper positioning, stronger infrastructure, greater influence or a clearer path forward. I work across strategy, narrative, operations, relationships and execution to help build what comes next.

Advocacy & Public Policy

My advocacy work began in 2022 after my experience with image based sexual abuse was featured in Netflix’s The Most Hated Man on the Internet. Watch on Netflix I used that visibility to push for stronger laws, survivor protections and institutional accountability, with national coverage and interviews including Rolling Stone, Read the Rolling Stone feature The Tamron Hall Show, View The Tamron Hall Show appearance an MSNBC interview, Watch the MSNBC interview and a TODAY feature syndicated by Yahoo News. Read the TODAY feature I also publicly challenged the continued use of the term “revenge porn,” arguing that the phrase centers revenge and pornography rather than abuse, consent and victimization. That demand became the subject of international news coverage. Read the terminology coverage
In the later TODAY feature, Dr. Mary Anne Franks of the Cyber Civil Rights Initiative also described “revenge porn” as a troubling misnomer, reinforcing the shift toward more accurate terminology such as image based sexual abuse. (Yahoo)

I then launched a national Change.org campaign calling for federal criminalization of image based sexual abuse. View my Change.org campaign The campaign grew to 31,742 verified signatures and later mobilized supporters around federal measures including the TAKE IT DOWN Act, the SHIELD Act and the DEFIANCE Act. (Change.org) The TAKE IT DOWN Act became Public Law 119 12 in May 2025, establishing federal criminal prohibitions around intentional disclosure of nonconsensual intimate visual depictions and requiring covered platforms to provide removal mechanisms. Read the TAKE IT DOWN Act View the White House signing announcement

In 2023, my experience was included in Panorama Global’s I Didn’t Consent: A Global Landscape Report on Image Based Sexual Abuse, which examined the issue through the perspectives of survivors, advocates, researchers, policymakers and organizations around the world. Read the Panorama Global report I then spoke on a panel at Panorama Global’s first Global Summit on Image Based Sexual Abuse in Miami, where 60 experts from 19 countries convened to develop a more coordinated, survivor centered response to image based sexual abuse. Read about the Global Summit I advocated for verified consent and stronger judicial education and training. The Initial Blueprint for the White House Task Force to Address Online Harassment and Abuse, released in March 2023, subsequently included priorities aligned with that advocacy, including increased training and technical assistance for law enforcement, prosecutors and judicial personnel, stronger survivor support, accountability measures and federal action addressing nonconsensual intimate imagery and technology facilitated gender based violence. Read the White House Initial Blueprint (The White House)

Through the Alecto Foundation, I later participated in its Washington, D.C. summit at Vital Voices Global Headquarters for Women’s Leadership, advocating directly with federal legislative stakeholders, including staff for Sen. Ted Cruz, on protections for victims of nonconsensual intimate imagery. Explore the Alecto Foundation Explore Vital Voices Global Headquarters I also spoke at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on technology facilitated sexual abuse, survivor protection and systemic reform. My work then expanded into state policy with Susanna Gibson of MyOwnImage and Arkansas Rep. Karilyn Brown. Explore MyOwn I contributed survivor informed policy input, stakeholder advocacy and support for HB 1967, legislation strengthening Arkansas law governing the unlawful distribution of intimate images. Read Arkansas HB 1967 The legislation was signed into law as Act 981 of 2025. The Act broadened protections beyond family, household and dating relationships and clarified that consent to the creation or previous disclosure of an intimate image does not constitute consent to its unauthorized distribution. Read Act 981 of 2025 (Arkansas Legislature)

I am currently working with HMS, a consent focused organization building education, media, technology and strategic partnerships designed to make boundaries and accountability usable in real life across campuses, institutions and culture. HMS describes consent not simply as education, but as infrastructure, with a long term mission to change all 50 state criminal codes within ten years. Explore HMS My work focuses on helping build the strategic, operational and policy infrastructure behind that mission, including organizational development, stakeholder and coalition strategy and the legislative pathway required to move consent reform from concept into law.

I am also taking on a project with Alecto AI, a survivor founded technology company building human centered online identity infrastructure designed to address image based abuse. Its technology centers individual consent verification, secure identification and reporting of harmful imagery and tools that give people greater control over their identities and intimate content online. Across this work, my focus has evolved from survivor advocacy and public awareness into coalition building, legislative strategy, organizational development, public policy and systems change.

Tess Mann Atelier
